Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 18, 2026

Amend ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Amend iOS app and web service. This policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

1. Who this policy applies to

Amend is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@getamend.com and we will delete it promptly.

2. Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account (via Google, Apple, or email), we receive your email address and, if provided by the identity provider, your display name and profile photo. We also store your account identifier and onboarding answers, such as age range, school level, role, and learning preferences. We store this information in Supabase, our database provider.

Website waitlist. If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address to send early-access and launch updates. You may ask us to remove it at any time.

Learning data. We store the courses you create, unit progress, practice attempts (including your typed or voice-transcribed answers), mastery estimates, and AI-generated feedback. This data is linked to your account and used to personalise your tutoring experience and sync it across your devices.

Optional exam calibration data. If you explicitly choose to save a pre-exam prediction, we store that prediction with its course and exam date. If you later choose to report your earned and maximum points, we link the result to that saved prediction to evaluate Amend's prediction accuracy. Reporting an exam result is optional.

Whiteboard content. When you use the "Check" or "Coach me" features, a snapshot of your whiteboard strokes and/or an extracted OCR text is sent to our AI provider to generate grading feedback. Whiteboard images are not stored permanently; they are transmitted for inference only.

Camera and photo library. If you use the Quick Help feature to photograph homework, the image is sent to our AI provider for analysis. We do not store these images on our servers beyond the duration of the request.

Voice input. If you use the voice tutor, your microphone audio may be transcribed on-device or by Apple Speech Recognition. For live voice, Amend's API authorizes the session, then encrypted WebRTC audio may connect directly to OpenAI; the resulting text is used to generate a tutor response. Raw audio is not stored by Amend after transcription.

Usage and diagnostics. We may collect anonymised crash reports and error logs via Sentry (if configured) to diagnose and fix bugs. These logs may include device type, OS version, and the sequence of actions that led to a crash, but do not include whiteboard content or answer text.

Purchase information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. We use RevenueCat to verify purchase history, subscription status, renewal state, and entitlement. This information is linked to your Amend account. We do not receive or store your payment card details.

Advertising. Ads are disabled in the current release, so Amend does not request an ad or send data to Google Mobile Ads. Before enabling ads in a later update, we will update this policy and provide any required privacy choices before the first ad request.

3. How we use your information

  • To provide and improve the tutoring service.
  • To generate practice problems and personalised AI feedback.
  • To sync your progress across devices when you are signed in.
  • To enforce rate limits and subscription quotas.
  • To diagnose crashes and fix bugs (crash reports only).
  • With your explicit consent, to evaluate and improve Exam Predictor accuracy.
  • To communicate service updates (we will not send marketing emails without your explicit consent).

We do not use student work to train third-party foundation models. Opt-in prediction snapshots and exam results may be used to evaluate and improve Amend's own deterministic prediction logic.

4. AI and third-party services

Before Amend sends personal data to third-party AI providers, the app asks for your explicit permission and explains the data, providers, and purpose. AI features remain unavailable unless you choose to consent. You can withdraw permission in Settings; future AI requests will stop, although a request already in progress may finish.

Amend uses OpenRouter-routed AI providers, including Google, and OpenAI for selected voice and audio features. Student work, whiteboard snapshots, answers, and voice transcripts may be sent to these providers to deliver the requested feature. Provider processing is governed by their terms and available privacy controls; we do not promise zero-data retention.

We also use Supabase for database and authentication, RevenueCat for subscription verification, optionally Sentry for crash reporting, and PostHog for optional anonymous product analytics. Product analytics is disabled until you opt in from Settings; no homework, answer, OCR, or voice content is sent as analytics. Each provider has their own privacy policy governing how they handle data on our behalf. We use these providers only to operate Amend, configure available privacy controls, and require them to protect data consistently with their service-provider commitments and applicable law.

Google AdMob support is present for a possible later update but is disabled in the current release. If enabled, Amend will use Google's consent tools where required, request non-personalized ads only, and will not send student work, course data, or an Amend account ID for advertising. We do not sell personal data or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

5. Data retention

We retain your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account. Deletion permanently removes your profile, all courses, practice history, and learning traces from our database within 24 hours. We also initiate deletion of the linked RevenueCat customer record and revoke a stored Sign in with Apple authorization when applicable. Deleting an Amend account does not cancel an Apple subscription; subscriptions must be managed separately in Apple ID settings. Apple and other providers may retain transaction or security records when required by law.

Anonymised, aggregated usage statistics (e.g., total number of practice attempts per subject) may be retained indefinitely and cannot be linked back to you.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@getamend.com. We will respond within 30 days.

You may also delete your account directly in the app at any time; the app starts the same deletion process described above.

7. Security

Data in transit is encrypted. Data at rest is encrypted by Supabase. Secret AI and server credentials are not included in the app; public client keys used to connect to Supabase, RevenueCat, and optional analytics services may be included in the app and are restricted by provider-side access controls. AI credentials and session authorization are server-mediated. Most AI requests pass through our API. For live voice, after our API authorizes the session, encrypted WebRTC media may connect directly from your device to OpenAI.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
